At Gene Johnson Plumbing, Heating, Cooling & Electrical, we’ve been serving Kirkland homeowners and businesses for decades. Our Air Installation Services for Kirkland Homeowners and Businesses

We know that every property is different, and your air conditioning system should be sized and set up to match your specific needs. That’s why our AC installation services cover every type of cooling equipment available today. We install central AC systems, ductless mini-splits, and heat pumps, ensuring your home or business gets the right system for both comfort and efficiency. We handle everything from removing your old equipment to the final performance test, so you can enjoy a smooth, worry-free process.

We work with trusted brands like Bosch, Mitsubishi Electric, American Standard, and Daikin, but our HVAC technicians are fully trained to install any brand you choose. Our recommendations always focus on your comfort goals, your budget, and your long-term energy savings, never on sales quotas or gimmicks.

When you choose us, you get more than just a new AC system — you get peace of mind knowing it’s installed correctly, built to last, and backed by a company that stands behind its work.

We Also Install New Air Ducts

If your project requires ductwork, we can design and install a new system that ensures balanced airflow, consistent temperatures, and optimal efficiency.

Our ductwork installations are built to last, using quality materials and precise sealing methods to prevent leaks and wasted energy. This extra attention to detail means your new AC system will perform at its very best from day one.

We Also Offer Indoor Air Quality Services

Comfort isn’t just about the temperature; it’s also about the quality of the air you breathe. That’s why we offer a full range of indoor air quality services to help remove dust, allergens, and airborne pollutants from your home or business.

From advanced air filtration systems to whole-home air purifiers and humidity control solutions, our HVAC technicians can recommend the right products to complement your new AC system. Cleaner air means a healthier environment for your family or employees, and it can even help your cooling system run more efficiently by keeping internal components cleaner.

How Do I Know It’s Time to Replace My Old AC System?

It’s usually time for air conditioning replacement if your current AC unit is over 12 to 15 years old, needs frequent repairs, or struggles to keep up with cooling demands. Higher energy bills can also be a sign that your AC is losing efficiency. If the cost of an AC repair is close to half the price of a new system, replacement is typically the smarter long-term investment. We can inspect your current AC system and give you an honest recommendation based on your home’s needs and your budget.

How Long Does the Typical AC System Installation Take?

Most standard AC installations take one full day, though larger or more complex projects may take two.

Factors That Can Affect the Installation Process:

      • System Type – Central AC, ductless mini-splits, and heat pumps have different installation requirements.
      • Ductwork Condition – Old or damaged ducts may need repair or replacement before installation.
      • Electrical Upgrades – Some systems require panel or wiring upgrades to meet code.
      • Unit Size – Larger systems can take longer to set up and test.
      • Accessibility – Attic or rooftop units may require more labor and time.
      • Weather Conditions – Extreme heat or rain can slow outdoor work.

We work efficiently without cutting corners to ensure your new system is ready to perform.

Do You Offer Free Estimates for AC Installation Services in Kirkland?

Yes. We provide free, no-obligation estimates for all new AC installations in Kirkland, WA. You’ll know exactly what’s included, how long the job will take, and the total cost before we begin.

Does Gene Johnson Offer Financing Plans for New AC Installations?

Yes, we offer financing options to make new AC installation more affordable. Whether you need to spread out the cost over several months or a few years, we’ll help you find a plan that fits your budget. Our team can explain the terms, interest rates, and payment schedules in clear, simple language, so there are no surprises. Having financing available means you don’t have to delay replacing a failing AC system, and you can start enjoying better comfort and lower energy bills right away.

How Long Will a New AC System Last?

With proper installation and care, most new AC systems last 15 to 20 years.

      The Importance of Maintenance

Regular maintenance plays a huge role in how long your AC will last. Annual tune-ups help keep parts clean, catch small issues early, and ensure your AC system runs at peak efficiency. This not only extends its lifespan but also keeps your energy bills lower. Skipping maintenance can shorten your system’s life by several years.

When you invest in a new AC installation, protecting that investment with professional air conditioning maintenance is always a smart move.

Can You Install an AC System in an Older Home Without Existing Ductwork?

Yes. For older homes in Kirkland that were built without central air, ductless mini-split installation is often the best solution. These systems don’t require ductwork, which means there’s no need for major renovations or tearing into walls. Instead, we install small indoor air handlers in the rooms you want to cool, all connected to a single outdoor unit.

This approach gives you zoned cooling control, high efficiency, and minimal disruption during installation. Many older homes benefit from this setup because it allows for modern comfort without compromising the home’s structure or character. Plus, mini-splits are quiet and energy-efficient, making them a smart investment for long-term comfort.

What Are Some Ways to Make My New AC System More Energy-Efficient?

Improving your new AC system’s efficiency not only lowers your energy bills but also helps the system last longer. We recommend:

      • Choosing the Right SEER Rating – Higher SEER ratings generally mean greater efficiency.
      • Keeping Air Filters Clean – Replace or clean them regularly to maintain airflow.
      • Sealing Ductwork – Prevents cool air from escaping before it reaches your rooms.
      • Using a Programmable Thermostat – Adjusts cooling based on your schedule to save energy.
      • Shading the Outdoor Unit – Keeps the system from working harder in direct sun.

Our HVAC technicians can also suggest upgrades or adjustments during your installation to maximize efficiency from day one.

Can You Relocate My AC Unit During a Replacement?

Yes, we can relocate your AC unit during an air conditioning replacement if it makes sense for your property’s layout and comfort needs. Sometimes moving the outdoor unit can improve efficiency by providing better airflow or reducing noise near windows and outdoor living spaces. Relocation may also be necessary if you’re remodeling or adding on to your home. We’ll assess the best possible placement, considering factors like clearances, shade, accessibility for maintenance, and proximity to indoor components. While relocating an AC unit adds some labor and material costs, it can be a smart move for both performance and convenience in the long term.

Are Heat Pumps Really a Good Choice for the Greater Seattle Area Climate?

Yes, heat pumps are an excellent choice for our mild Northwest climate. They provide efficient cooling in summer and reliable heating in winter, all from a single system.

Will I Need a Heating Backup If I Opt for a Heat Pump?

Yes, in extremely cold snaps, a backup heat source is helpful to maintain comfort.

Heat pumps offer year-round efficiency, making them a popular choice for Kirkland homeowners looking to save on energy bills.

Armando was incredible and super kind and helpful through and through. He gave us an honest assessment of the situation with no pressure to make a decision until we could make a decision. I would 100% use gene johnson again mostly because of how great he was.

Our technician arrived promptly the morning after we called, he figured out our problem in a short amount of time and then arranged to come out the next day and replace our failed pressure relief valve. We messaged our neighborhood WhatsApp group to see if others noticed increased water pressure. Hugo went above and beyond when he went to our neighbors to test their water pressures to see if they had issues. Some did. I’m sure it will lead to follow on work. He was courteous and efficient. We are happy with his work.

We had Colby from Gene Johnson come out to estimate a gas line move for a kitchen remodel as well as a tankless water heater. He was professional (they wear shoe covers!), friendly and very honest about the requested services pricing and feasibility with a 100+ year old house. We haven’t chosen them for the actual work yet but most likely will given the experience. I will be sure to update my review when that happens!

Mike K was great. We’re in a new house, so Mike gave great advice on what to watch out for in a brand of toilet we’ve never used. Very friendly and walked me through all of our options to arrive at the best possible price.

Summary: Gene Johnson sent a tech (Matt Hunter) to address our home heating system, which was sending no heat at all to many rooms in the house. Our system is a wonky spaghetti mess of piping, controllers and pumps that theoretically delivers hot water to legacy cast iron radiators, new floorboard radiators, and seven in-floor hydronic loops. It has not worked as intended since we bought the house 15 years ago. It has likely *never worked right since the last house renovation 25 years go (2000), given the horrid “design” that was implemented then. Matt was the first tech ever to figure out how it all works. He repaired every failed component and problem that could be fixed, given our disastrous configuration. We are completely satisfied with Matt’s work and privately are enormously grateful that this money hole has now been tamed.

Our house dates to 1918, so challenges in upgrading the heating plant in 2000 were a certainty. However, the zoo in our HVAC room is nearly indecipherable. I have hired one HVAC company after another over last 15 years to make sense of it, at great expense.

Ninety percent of past techs gave incomplete explanations, proposed the replacement of a pump or controller, or the addition of a valve, and then left. Some were honest enough to simply offer a theory of how it works, while admitting they didn’t know, and then left us with a big bill.

Enter Matt Hunt. Not sure if Matt looks the part of genius plumber, but then I’ve never seen one till now. He’s a little nerdy perhaps (like me) and also a dirt bike racer. Whatever: Matt alone successfully unraveled the mysteries of our home hot-water distribution plant. He confirmed that the entire house is controlled by two thermostats, which are, incredibly, located just 16 feet apart on the first floor. (One controls all hot water distributed on the north side of the house; one controls all hot water sent to the south side. Go figure.) Matt explained why heat often doesn’t reach the upper floors even when the system is “working” (if it’s warm on the first floor, naturally, no heat is available to the second and third floors).

Matt discovered that the pressure in the water distribution lines was only 4PSI (target range: 13-22PSI), determined that the cause was huge amounts of air in the pipes, and the culprit was a broken refill valve. The new valve includes a pressure gauge so we can now see when the pressure in the water lines has fallen so low that the system can’t deliver hot water to the upper stories. He also spotted problems with the air eliminator, i.e. the “burping” component that normally should purge some/most of the air. He has proposed replacing that (agreed).

Matt drained the pipes on all floors; refilled the lines; purged all zones of air; and replaced the (broken) thermal expansion tank. Heat began to flow again to all rooms. He demosnttated that heat only happens on the upper floors provided that the two first-floor thermostats that control distribution to the entire home are below target temps and are calling for heat.

Matt mapped every radiator and hydronic zone to the main thermostat controlling it. He also determined which rooms/areas the hydronic thermostats control. (Of course, the hydronic thermostats, which are sprinkled around the house, are comic: they only perform as intended when the primary thermostats on the first floor are delivering hot water.) Matt gave us a detailed written explanation of what each component does and how it’s controlled.

Matt did all this in less time than some prior techs took to try and ultimately give up.

Our home heating system is a design wreck and will never deliver heat around the house reliably. However, with the fixes (and insights) mATT delivered, we now get heat when we want it with some work-arounds (like cooling down the first floor therostats). Further, we understand how to spot problems and fix the system going forward.

      Thank you, Matt!

Steven came out to troubleshoot our tankless water heater and quickly identified the issue as a clogged condensate pump. What really stood out was the time he took to explain everything in detail. He walked me through the condition of the unit, the manufacturer’s recommended lifespan, and the condensation damage and rust that had already occurred due to the blockage.

Steven gave me honest, thoughtful guidance and helped me make an informed decision about replacing the unit, without any pressure whatsoever. He clearly explained that we could have gotten by with a descaling for now, but also helped me understand why replacing it would likely save money and headaches over the long run.

He was patient, knowledgeable, and answered all of my questions thoroughly. I really appreciated his transparency and professionalism, and I would absolutely recommend Steven and Gene Johnson to anyone needing plumbing or tankless water heater service. Thanks!

Joseph F came for a leak we were experiencing along with his partner and was beyond helpful. We have a 4 month old and also had a contractor there at the same time. He was kind enough to entertain our little one in his swing while my husband was moving some things in the bathroom and I was talking to the contractor. So unexpected and beyond the call they came out for. Thank you!
