Our AC Repair Services in Everett, WA

When something’s wrong with your AC system, you need a team that knows how to handle it all.

Common Air Conditioner Repairs We Handle

We see all kinds of issues with AC systems across Everett. Here are six of the most common:

  • Refrigerant LeaksWhen your AC isn’t cooling properly, a refrigerant leak could be the cause. This usually stems from corroded coils or worn connections. We’ll detect the leak, repair it, and recharge your AC unit safely.
  • Frozen Evaporator CoilsRestricted airflow or low refrigerant levels can cause your coils to ice over. If your home isn’t getting cool, this could be the problem. We’ll safely thaw the coil and fix the root cause.
  • Thermostat MalfunctionsFaulty thermostat calibration or bad wiring can lead to erratic temperatures. We test your thermostat, recalibrate it, or replace it if necessary to restore balance and accuracy.
  • Clogged Condensate DrainIf the drain line gets blocked, moisture can back up into your system or home. We clear the drain and make sure your AC is draining properly again.
  • Worn Blower MotorsYour blower motor pushes air through your ducts. If it fails or wears down, airflow is reduced or lost entirely. We inspect the motor and replace it if needed.
  • Capacitor and Contactor FailuresThese small parts handle the system’s start-up and operation. When they go bad, your unit may not power up. Luckily, they’re simple and quick to replace.

AC Systems & Brands We Repair

We repair just about every air conditioning system used in homes and businesses across Everett:

  • Central air conditioners (single-stage, two-stage, and variable speed)
  • Heat pumps
  • Ductless mini-splits
  • Packaged rooftop units
  • Zoned AC systems

Our HVAC repair team works with major brands like Trane, Carrier, Lennox, American Standard, Rheem, Goodman, Daikin, Mitsubishi, and more. Whether you’ve got a traditional AC system or a newer high-efficiency model, we have the experience and equipment to get it running again.

We also service smart thermostats and Wi-Fi-enabled controls—including Nest, Ecobee, and Honeywell models. If your system has a tech component, we’re ready to handle it.

Reliable Repair. No Guesswork.

We don’t throw parts at a problem and hope for the best. Every repair begins with a complete inspection and diagnosis. Once we’ve pinpointed the issue, we walk you through what’s going on, what your options are, and what it’ll cost—before we start.

AC Troubleshooting Tips for Everett Homeowners

Before calling us, there are a few things you can check that might save you a service call.

Check Your Thermostat Settings: Make sure your thermostat is set to “cool” and not just “fan.” It happens more often than you think. Also, check that the set temperature is below the current room temperature.

Replace the Air Filter: If your filter is dirty or clogged, airflow gets restricted. That can lead to frozen coils and poor performance. Replacing your air filter every 1–3 months is one of the simplest ways to keep your AC system healthy.

Inspect the Circuit Breaker: If your AC isn’t turning on at all, the breaker may have tripped. Flip it back on, but if it trips again, leave it off and call us—it could be a deeper electrical issue.

Clear the Area Around the Outdoor Unit: Your outdoor condenser unit needs breathing room. Make sure grass, leaves, or other debris aren’t blocking the airflow. A quick rinse with a hose (power off first!) can also help.

Check the Vents: Make sure all air vents inside your home are open and unobstructed. Closing vents in unused rooms can actually make the system less efficient and more prone to issues.

If you’ve gone through these steps and the problem’s still there, don’t sweat it. We’re happy to jump in and take a closer look.

When to Call a Professional for Air Conditioning Repair

If your air conditioner is blowing hot air, constantly turning on and off, leaking water, making loud or strange noises, or not turning on at all, it’s time to call for help. Delaying a repair can turn a simple fix into a major breakdown—and a more expensive one at that.

We also recommend calling in the pros if you see ice forming on any part of your AC unit, notice a spike in energy bills, or feel hot and cold spots throughout your home. Any of these can be signs that your AC system isn’t operating as it should.

Why Is My Air Conditioner Blowing Hot Air?

Nothing’s more confusing than a running AC unit that makes your home feel warmer, not cooler.

  • Low Refrigerant: When the system doesn’t have enough refrigerant, it can’t absorb heat from your home effectively.
  • Dirty Evaporator Coil: A clogged or frozen coil can block heat exchange, which means warm air keeps circulating.
  • Thermostat Issues: Incorrect thermostat calibration or faulty wiring can confuse your system.
  • Outdoor Unit Malfunction: If the condenser or fan outside isn’t working, your system can’t release heat.

Typical Fixes

We’ll start by checking refrigerant levels, cleaning the coils, testing the thermostat function, and inspecting the outdoor unit for electrical or mechanical failures. In most cases, we can have your system cooling again within a single visit.

When your AC is blowing hot air, don’t wait—get it checked out before things get worse.

Why Is My Air Conditioner Short-Cycling?

Short cycling is when your AC turns on and off too frequently, and it puts a lot of wear and tear on the system.

  • Oversized AC Unit: If the system is too powerful, it cools your space too fast and shuts off—only to turn on again minutes later.
  • Low Refrigerant: Low levels force the compressor to work harder, triggering early shut-off.
  • Thermostat Location: If your thermostat is placed near a vent or in direct sunlight, it may misread the actual room temperature.
  • Clogged Filter: Restricted airflow causes overheating, leading to frequent stops.
  • Electrical Problems: A failing capacitor or control board can cause erratic cycling.

Typical Fixes

We’ll inspect your system to determine the root cause—whether it’s mechanical, electrical, or related to poor installation. From recharging refrigerant to relocating a thermostat, we’ll restore proper cycling.

Short cycling reduces efficiency and leads to early system failure, so it’s worth getting it addressed sooner rather than later.

How Long Does the Average Repair Take?

It depends on the problem. A simple capacitor replacement, clogged drain line, or thermostat fix might only take 30–60 minutes. More involved issues—like blower motor or compressor repair—can take several hours or require a follow-up visit if parts need to be ordered. Our HVAC technicians always work as efficiently as possible without cutting corners. We carry most common parts on hand, and we’ll always give you a time estimate before starting. Whether it’s a quick fix or a half-day job, you’ll know exactly what to expect.

Do You Have Replacement Parts for Old Air Conditioners?

We do our best to stock parts for a wide range of air conditioner makes and models—even older systems that have seen a few summers. For units 10–20 years old, parts availability can vary depending on the brand and model. In many cases, we’re able to source OEM or compatible replacement parts through our extended supplier network. However, for systems that are very outdated or no longer supported by the manufacturer, repair may not be the most cost-effective option.

If we run into that situation, we’ll talk you through your options—including upgrading to a newer, more efficient model. We’ll always give you an honest recommendation with no pressure, and we’ll never push a replacement unless it truly makes more sense than a repair.

When Is It Time to Replace My Old AC?

Most air conditioners last 12–15 years with proper care. If your AC is reaching that age and breaking down more often, it may be time to replace it. Other signs include rising energy bills, uneven cooling, noisy operation, or frequent refrigerant refills. If repairs start costing more than 30–40% of the cost of a new system, replacement is usually the better long-term investment. A new system also gives you better comfort, improved indoor air quality, and modern energy-efficiency features that can save you money every month.

What Causes My AC to Smell Musty When It Runs?

Musty odors typically come from moisture buildup inside your system. This can happen when your drain line is clogged or if there’s mold or mildew growing on the coils or in the ductwork. Moist environments and warm temperatures make a perfect breeding ground for bacteria. We clean your system, flush the drain line, and inspect the ducts for microbial growth to eliminate the smell—and prevent it from returning.

Is It Safe to Keep Running My AC When It’s Not Working Properly?

If your AC unit is making odd sounds, blowing warm air, or frequently shutting off, it’s best to stop running it until a technician can inspect it. Continuing to operate a failing unit can cause more serious damage or even become a safety hazard, especially if there’s an electrical or refrigerant-related issue. It’s always safer—and more cost-effective—to schedule a repair promptly.

My sump pump that was installed by a different company 16 months ago, had the alarm go off that it wasn’t draining. So I called Gene Johnson Plumbing as they were open on the weekends when my alarm went off. Branson from Gene Johnson came out and took a look at my system. The original company hadn’t even bothered to plug my sump pump to an electrical outlet. So he was able to quickly and easily figure out what was wrong with the sump pump, he also identified that the furnace installation company had neglected to install something important on the furnace components. So he was able to fix that as well. Two different companies, he found two different mistakes, and he was able to fix everything so my system works perfectly. Thanks Branson!!

5

We had a leak under the kitchen sink this morning that flooded the floor. We were afraid that it was something major. Branson came out, immediately figured out that a clip had worked loose on the spray faucet hose, put things back together and voila!
We are grateful for the prompt, friendly, competent service from Branson and Gene Johnson Plumbing.

Mark Ochoa is amazing!!! We had a super complicated drain clog that he worked tirelessly to address. I absolutely love this company and would not hesitate to have Mark back out to her our house. Thank you so much Mark!
