Is Your Boiler Ready for This Winter?

Many people don’t realize that warm weather, when the boiler isn’t in use, is the best time to have it serviced.

A checkup now helps you avoid surprises when temperatures drop below freezing.

Once an HVAC technician has looked it over, you can relax and enjoy a warm home all winter.

Here are some tips to keep your Seattle boiler in excellent condition.

Bleed the Radiators

If heat can’t circulate well, your Seattle home won’t stay warm. Bleeding the radiators periodically releases trapped air and improves heat flow.

If your radiators are hot on the bottom and cool on top, it’s time to bleed them.

Check the Pipes

Frozen pipes are a sure way to lose heat on a cold night. The most important is the condensate pipe, which carries condensation from the boiler to an outside drain.

If it freezes, the boiler will shut down. A technician can prevent this with foam pipe insulation or heating tape.

Clean the Boiler

Dirt, dust, and debris built up on or inside a boiler reduce its efficiency.

Debris can also block outlets and keep gases from escaping. Have a technician inspect and clean your boiler inside and out.

With specialized vacuum tools, they can remove debris from deep inside the unit and around its openings. A quick check can prevent many problems.
